Vote No : I-1029

Seven good reasons to oppose initiative 1029
  • I-1029 IS MISLEADING - State Patrol background checks are already required by law for all paid caregivers in all settings.
  • I-1029 ELIMINATES JOBS AND CARE OPTIONS - It will cut caregiver jobs and deplete the pool of qualified workers when there is already a shortage of people to care for the elderly and disabled.
  • I-1029 HURTS FAMILIES - It will make it more difficult and more expensive for families to provide or arrange quality care for their loved ones.
  • I-1029 IS UNNECESSARY - It will force all paid family members, even parents, to take unnecessary and expensive training before caring for their loved ones.
  • I-1029 WASTES MILLIONS OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS - It will cost at least $135 million over the next five years – at a time when the State is already facing a budget gap.
  • I-1029 WILL BE INEFFECTIVE - Our clients have diverse needs and require a wide range of care. I-1029’s one-size-fits-all requirements won’t allow training to be tailored to individual needs, reducing the quality of care they receive.
  • I-1029 HAS ALREADY BEEN REJECTED - State officials carefully studied and rejected these proposals as unnecessary, too expensive, and because there was no evidence that they would improve care.
